The Zimbabwe Library Association (ZimLA) Matebeleland Branch is geared up to celebrate the International School Library Month (ISLM) this October with an event scheduled at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) on October 15, 2016.
The theme for the ISLM celebrations is "Learn to Decode Your World”. One school, One Librarian, One Library has been adopted as the sub-theme for the ISLM with the view of advocating for the establishment of vibrant school libraries in Zimbabwe manned by qualified personal. Throughout the month of October, school librarians are encouraged to host activities that promote the school library involving students. Last year the theme was “The School Library Rocks”.
ZimLA president Mr. Lantern Fusire and International Association of School Librarianship Southern Africa Regional Director Mr. Jerry Mathema are expected to give celebration speeches for the commemoration.
The ISLM commemorations create awareness on the significance of the school library in the education system. The participation of the Provincial Education Director Mr. D. Moyo Matabeleland Metropolitan province in the event is crucial and would help build bridges between the Association and the Ministry for a vibrant school library system in the province.
The branch has invited schools, school librarians and branch members to attend the event. ZimLA branches across the country are expected to host activities to celebrate the school library month.
