The 49th ZimLA Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) is to take place at the spacious Cutty Sark Hotel in Kariba from the 23rd – 25th of June 2015. Previously, the venue has been advertised as the Caribbean Bay Hotel but due unforeseen circumstance the venue has been changed to the Cutty Sark Hotel.
Cutty Sark Hotel in Kariba is located at the top of Nzou Drive with a superb view of Lake Kariba and the Matusadona Mountains according the hotel website. The hotel rooms are surrounded by beautifully kept gardens on the shores of Lake Kariba. It also offers a Wifi hotspot and staff can help you organise a boat cruise, game drive or fishing trip.
ZimLA conference theme is Libraries Driving the Economy: a 21st Century Trajectory. Conference papers have been accepted and formal communication has been send to presenters. The Secretary General is working towards updating the conference schedule and programmes.
Last year, ZimLA conference was attended by more than 70 delegates including regional delegates who presented on various sub-themes of that conference. This conference is expected to attract more delegates after several delegates were impressed with the previous ZimLA conferences.
At the Conference, besides the AGM, the various special interest groups are expected to meet to cement their various structures and slots to allow skills development is to be arranged. Noting that the library technology is evolving faster and social media and various Apps are influencing the librarians job a need to demonstrate on these and more is required.
