The International Association of School Librarianship (IASL) Sub Saharan region joined hands with the Matopo High School in Bulawayo to host an International School Library Month (ISLM) celebrations where the IASL Africa Sub-Sahara Regional Director and Zimbabwe Library Association Prsident-Elect, Mr. Jerry Mathema gave a keynote address emphasizing on the significance of the school library in the education system.

Matopo High School Librarian, Mrs. Sichelesile Ndlovu organized the event that was attended by the school Deputy Head, and other librarians from the Zimbabwe Library Association Matebeleland Branch. The commemoration were meant to create awareness on the opportunities the school library presents to students and student. In the effort to increase the utilization of the school library, at least five students and a teacher were awarded with certificates for their continuous use of the library.

The theme for 2018 is “Why I Love My School Library" which is derived from the annual IASL conference theme of “Innovation, Information and Impact of School Libraries". More events have been organized to commemorate the school library month, which gives an opportunity to increase advocacy opportunities for school librarians.
